This white paper proposes a comprehensive R&D program to develop and validate Laminated Titanium-Based Metal Matrix Composites (LTMMC) as a next-generation armor solution for U.S. Army tactical vehicles. LTMMC offers superior multi-hit ballistic protection at significantly reduced weight, enhancing vehicle mobility, survivability, and lifecycle cost-efficiency. The effort includes material optimization, scalable manufacturing via Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), rigorous ballistic and environmental testing, and optional Government validation by Army DEVCOM. Compared to traditional armor systems, LTMMC provides long-term savings through reduced fuel consumption, corrosion resistance, and lower sustainment burdens, directly aligning with Army 2030 modernization goals. By investing in LTMMC, the DoD can deliver lighter, more agile, and more survivable combat vehicles ready for the demands of future battlefields.
